If you’ve gone back far enough on this blog or you know me in “real life”, then you know I once had a dog named Missy, who was the star of our annual holiday card (see the backstory on that by clicking HERE). She was my faithful sidekick from the time she was 6 weeks old until she passed away last year at the age of 16, so as you might expect, I was heartbroken. I knew I would eventually want another dog, but I figured it would take me about a year before I felt ready. I just needed some time.
It took 11 months and 2 trips to The Montgomery Humane Society – the same place where I adopted Missy. After the first trip, I went home empty-handed because none of the dogs there felt like the right one. I wondered if Missy had permanently ruined me by being too awesome. But a month later, I went back and spotted a blonde ragamuffin of a pup, with a wild spray of fur on his snout and a tiny scruffy beard. He looked like you took a little old man’s face and a puppy’s soul and mixed them together. Shy at first, he was surprisingly calm for a 4 month old, especially one that appeared to be part terrier. But above all, there was a genuine sweetness in his face that I couldn’t get out of my mind – not even when I held another puppy that looked SO much like Missy that tears immediately welled up in my eyes.
So meet Watson. He’s a happy little guy. 🙂
Special thanks to Kristina and the rest of the staff at The Montgomery Humane Society for patiently helping me along the way. The artist formerly known as Leroy has left the building!
Great looking pup, hi Watson!
Watson, auntie and your cousins loved you as soon as we met you. You’re a sweet little man.
