I kind of HAD to shoot this couple’s wedding, for a couple of reasons. One: Alex has this super awesome handsome dog named Mason, who was involved in the proposal (insert girly squeal here – you know I love me some dog people). Two: when I first met them, Jessica was training for her first marathon (which she has since run in Huntsville). And let me just tell you – homegirl is FAST. I can cover some distance, but if this was the story of the tortoise and the hare, I’d definitely be the tortoise. She’d be the hare hanging out at the finish line sipping margaritas, waiting for my old *ss to finish an hour later!
I could squeeze this dog’s face off, he’s so expressive. When I was editing the pictures, Mason’s face always seemed to be “saying” something. Like, “The picture lady said you’re getting married, does this mean you can be my mom forever?” or “Ugh, they’re kissing. I’m not looking.” 😉
It’s about time for an updated album post, so here it is! It’s no secret I’m a huge fan of wedding albums. I totally understand the love of digital images, but you have to admit, looking through pictures laid out in a book in a manner that tells a story is a much different experience than clicking through them one at a time on Facebook! In the last year or so, shades of brown, cream, and white have been the most popular album color choices for my couples. A little texture in the form of an embossed or debossed leather accent is hot too. And lately, more is more, with newlyweds adding extra spreads to their albums in order to add more pictures (one couple nearly doubled the size of their album, you can see a shot of that whopper below!).
While the ceremony and reception were being set up at the Embassy Suites, I was across the street with Jessica and her maids as they got ready at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa. I recognized her makeup artist from another wedding I shot, which made me happy because 1.) familiar faces are always nice to see at weddings and 2.) she makes sure everyone has their “eyebrows on fleek”! She also did a pretty spot on impression of Jessica checking out her makeup and had us all giggling.
When it was time for Jessica to walk down the aisle, she entered the room wearing a cape (made by matron of honor Jennifer) and paused at the end of the aisle so her friend and wedding planner could help her with the dramatic reveal. Jessica’s dad got emotional as they made their way down to where groom Tonya’ was waiting, but I’m pretty sure that emotion had nothing to do with the cape.
The reception was held in another room at the Embassy Suites, and was decorated in purple, white, and plenty of silvery sparkle. Guests were served salads, as well as a plated dinner of chicken, rice and vegetables, and a slideshow of memories played to entertain them. The wedding cake was wrapped in rhinestones, while the groom’s cake featured the University of Georgia‘s mascot, the bulldog.
Once everyone was full, there was a fun evening of dancing, including a surprise choreographed routine by Tonya’ (also known as Doobie) and his mom. And I had to add a picture of Jennifer (the matron of honor) giving her toast because she reminded me of someone, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. I said something to Jessica later – she told me everyone says Jennifer looks like Queen Latifah, and I said, “That’s it!!!”
Jessica & Tonya’: thank you so much for letting me be a part of your day. Every time I see someone doing Doobie’s dance move, I think of you two!
You know the song, so sing it with me: Sweet Caroline…ba ba baaaaaaa!!! It couldn’t be more true for this adorable little nugget, who wasn’t even a twinkle in her mom and dad’s eyes back in 2010 when I shot their wedding. She was celebrating her first birthday, complete with balloons we kept out of sight until late in the day because mom and grandma said they would have her full attention once she saw them. Little did we know she would have an affinity for biting the balloons and we would all be terrified each time it happened, afraid of her reaction if one of the balloons popped. Eventually it did happen, but she just jumped a little and looked surprised. On to the next one, I suppose!
