Wedding: Edith & James – St. Joseph of Arimathea Anglican Church – Montgomery, Alabama

2013 isn’t over yet, but I’m gonna go ahead and call it now – this may be the sweetest little wedding I shot all year. Most of my inquiries come from brides-to-be, but this time it was the groom who contacted me to ask if I was available to shoot his wedding. The event was going to take place at the quaint St. Joseph of Arimathea Anglican Church, which is tucked in a quiet corner off Bell Road that I didn’t even know existed. James (a Montgomery native) was emailing me from Afghanistan (where he works), to tell me he was planning to renew his vows with his wife Edith (who is Hungarian), while they were visiting Montgomery, before returning to their home in Canada (did you get all that?). They’d been married in a civil ceremony just 5 years ago – and the photographer they hired flaked. And when I say flaked, I mean they have NO professional photographs of the day, just a few snapshots someone was nice enough to take so they’d at least have something. So James wanted to give Edith the wedding she’d always wanted, including the pictures she’d always wanted. Engagement: April & Joe – Auburn, Alabama

Consider yourself warned – these two are so cute together, it’s kind of ridiculous. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen so much silliness in one session, and the best part is, none of it is forced. They are REALLY that adorable. So adorable in fact, that for some of the shots around Auburn, Joe wore the shirt he was wearing when he popped the question. We started off at Big Blue Bagel, where they first met, and ended up at The Hound, where they had their first date (go ahead, you know you want to say “Awwwww!!!”).

Wedding: The Oaks Plantation – Pike Road, Alabama

Most of the time, I start my day at the ceremony venue, but every now and then I get to take a little trip to the salon. This time, it just happened to be with my homies at Doug’s 2 Salon Spa, where Emily Rose worked her magic:
At The Oaks Plantation, there were rustic and personal touches everywhere, from the blue glass jars resting in front of old family pictures…
…to the homemade chocolate chip cookies that were part of the DIY favor table, where guests could put together their own bags of goodies, and seal them with Japanese washi tape to take home and enjoy later:
If the sparkle of the bride’s Badgley Mischka shoes didn’t get your attention…
The unique cut of the diamond in her engagement ring probably would have. I’m pretty sure I drooled a little. It was like a tiny, fabulous disco ball!
The bride chose a full lace Maggie Sottero gown, while the maid of honor’s pale blue dress was from Wtoo by Watters:
But I have a feeling no matter what she wore, the sight of her daughter getting ready to walk down the aisle still would have brought tears to her mom’s eyes:
Maybe it’s genetic, because when she finally got to spend a little time before the ceremony with the man she was about to marry, the bride shed a few tears of her own:
The reception was decorated with touches of burlap and glass, and guests noshed on a full spread by A Catered Affair, including shrimp and grits, and a coffee station complete with dainty cups. Dessert came in the form of cakes by Cake Designs:
The band was all about being interactive, especially when one of the guests knew every word of Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby” and totally threw down on the mic:

Wedding: Felicia & Justin – Columbus Convention & Trade Center – Columbus, Georgia

The day was cloudy at the historic Columbus Convention and Trade Center, but the mood was sunny with flowers from Bloomwoods:
…and a bride with eyes so mesmerizing, I had to ask her if they were real (they are – those aren’t contacts, people!):
Her “twinkies” Asia & India (or is it India & Asia?) gave me a double hint of how much fun the bridal party was going to be:
While we were busy taking pictures, the ceremony and reception setup were being coordinated by Weddings & Whimsy by Jodie. And before we knew it, it was time for them to walk down the dramatically lit aisle:
This bridal party was a FUN bunch – you might even recognize some of them from an episode of “Say Yes to the Dress: Bridesmaids”. The matron of honor’s sister was the bridesmaid who wanted to wear a tiara!
Justin seems like the quiet type on the outside, but he’s one of those people that busts out something funny when you least expect it:
And speaking of busting something out, there were more than a few moves busted out on the dance floor. I spied some Cabbage Patch, some Bankhead Bounce, and even a little Stanky Leg. I may or may not have thrown a little something down myself. 😮
Felicia & Justin: thank you so much for letting me drop it low at your wedding. Even though I wasn’t sure I’d be able to pick it up, I’d do it all over again!
