Wedding: Edith & James – St. Joseph of Arimathea Anglican Church – Montgomery, Alabama

2013 isn’t over yet, but I’m gonna go ahead and call it now – this may be the sweetest little wedding I shot all year. Most of my inquiries come from brides-to-be, but this time it was the groom who contacted me to ask if I was available to shoot his wedding. The event was going to take place at the quaint St. Joseph of Arimathea Anglican Church, which is tucked in a quiet corner off Bell Road that I didn’t even know existed. James (a Montgomery native) was emailing me from Afghanistan (where he works), to tell me he was planning to renew his vows with his wife Edith (who is Hungarian), while they were visiting Montgomery, before returning to their home in Canada (did you get all that?). They’d been married in a civil ceremony just 5 years ago – and the photographer they hired flaked. And when I say flaked, I mean they have NO professional photographs of the day, just a few snapshots someone was nice enough to take so they’d at least have something. So James wanted to give Edith the wedding she’d always wanted, including the pictures she’d always wanted. So in front of just two guests (his son and daughter-in-law), and one photographer who wouldn’t flake, they promised to love each other all over again.wedding at st joseph of arimathea churchst joseph of arimathea wedding in montgomerygroom getting ready to walk down the aislebride getting ready to walk down the aisle in montgomeryvow renewal at st joseph of arimathea churchwedding at st joseph of arimathea in montgomery alabamabride and groom kiss at st joseph of arimatheabride and groom portrait at st joseph of arimatheaportraits at st joseph of arimathea church montgomerybride and groom in courtyard at st joseph of arimatheabride and groom at st joseph of arimathea in montgomery

Engagement: April & Joe – Auburn, Alabama

Consider yourself warned – these two are so cute together, it’s kind of ridiculous. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen so much silliness in one session, and the best part is, none of it is forced. They are REALLY that adorable. So adorable in fact, that for some of the shots around Auburn, Joe wore the shirt he was wearing when he popped the question. We started off at Big Blue Bagel, where they first met, and ended up at The Hound, where they had their first date (go ahead, you know you want to say “Awwwww!!!”).cute auburn alabama engagement picturesdowntown auburn engagement picturesengagement pictures in auburn by chanterelle photographybig blue bagel engagement picturesfunny auburn engagement picturessilly auburn alabama engagement picturesauburn alabama engagement sessionengagement pictures at the hound in auburn alabama

Wedding: The Oaks Plantation – Pike Road, Alabama

Most of the time, I start my day at the ceremony venue, but every now and then I get to take a little trip to the salon. This time, it just happened to be with my homies at Doug’s 2 Salon Spa, where Emily Rose worked her magic:bride getting ready at doug's 2 salongetting ready at dougs 2 salon in montgomery
At The Oaks Plantation, there were rustic and personal touches everywhere, from the blue glass jars resting in front of old family pictures…blue mason jars at a wedding
…to the homemade chocolate chip cookies that were part of the DIY favor table, where guests could put together their own bags of goodies, and seal them with Japanese washi tape to take home and enjoy later:favor table with japanese washi tapebridesmaid making a just married sign at the oaks plantation
If the sparkle of the bride’s Badgley Mischka shoes didn’t get your attention…bride's badgley mischka shoes at the oaks plantation
The unique cut of the diamond in her engagement ring probably would have. I’m pretty sure I drooled a little. It was like a tiny, fabulous disco ball!disco ball diamond engagement ring in montgomery alabamabride's pearl bracelet and vintage tiffany and co box
The bride chose a full lace Maggie Sottero gown, while the maid of honor’s pale blue dress was from Wtoo by Watters:bride getting dressed at the oaks plantation in pike roadbride getting ready at the oaks plantation in pike roaddramatic bride in maggie sottero gown at the oaks plantationbride waiting for ceremony to begin at the oaks plantation
But I have a feeling no matter what she wore, the sight of her daughter getting ready to walk down the aisle still would have brought tears to her mom’s eyes:mother of the bride crying at the oaks plantationbride and groom in a field at the oaks plantationbride and groom with a red tractor at the oaks plantation
Maybe it’s genetic, because when she finally got to spend a little time before the ceremony with the man she was about to marry, the bride shed a few tears of her own:bride crying during the first look at the oaks plantationwedding under a tent at the oaks plantation in pike road alabamabride and groom after the ceremony at the oaks plantation in pike road
The reception was decorated with touches of burlap and glass, and guests noshed on a full spread by A Catered Affair, including shrimp and grits, and a coffee station complete with dainty cups. Dessert came in the form of cakes by Cake Designs:burlap and vintage teacups at an oaks plantation wedding receptionwedding reception by a catered affair at the oaks plantationcakes by cake designs at an oaks plantation wedding
The band was all about being interactive, especially when one of the guests knew every word of Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby” and totally threw down on the mic:guest singing with the band at the oaks plantationband at an oaks plantation wedding receptiondancing at the oaks plantation wedding receptionbride and groom dancing at the oaks plantation in pike road

Wedding: Felicia & Justin – Columbus Convention & Trade Center – Columbus, Georgia

The day was cloudy at the historic Columbus Convention and Trade Center, but the mood was sunny with flowers from Bloomwoods:boutonnieres from bloomwood flowersbride getting ready at columbus convention center
…and a bride with eyes so mesmerizing, I had to ask her if they were real (they are – those aren’t contacts, people!):bride with amazing eyes in columbus georgiabride at her columbus convention center wedding
Her “twinkies” Asia & India (or is it India & Asia?) gave me a double hint of how much fun the bridal party was going to be:portrait of twin bridemaidsbride and groom outside columbus convention centerbride and groom at a columbus georgia weddingromantic bride and groom portrait at columbus trade centergroom and groomsmen at columbus trade centerbride and bridesmaids in salmon dresses
While we were busy taking pictures, the ceremony and reception setup were being coordinated by Weddings & Whimsy by Jodie. And before we knew it, it was time for them to walk down the dramatically lit aisle:dramatic lighting and draping at a columbus convention center weddingunity candle lighting at columbus weddingdraping and chandeliers at an evening columbus wedding
This bridal party was a FUN bunch – you might even recognize some of them from an episode of “Say Yes to the Dress: Bridesmaids”. Justin seems like the quiet type on the outside, but he’s one of those people that busts out something funny when you least expect it:garter removal at a columbus georgia wedding
And speaking of busting something out, there were more than a few moves busted out on the dance floor. I spied some Cabbage Patch, some Bankhead Bounce, and even a little Stanky Leg. I may or may not have thrown a little something down myself. 😮dancing at a columbus convention center wedding receptiondance moves at a columbus georgia weddingromantic bride and groom moment at their wedding reception in columbus
Felicia & Justin: thank you so much for letting me drop it low at your wedding. Even though I wasn’t sure I’d be able to pick it up, I’d do it all over again!
