Engagement: Amy & Josh – Montgomery, Alabama

When your friend tries to fix you up with someone, you never know what you’re gonna get. When Amy’s best friend married Josh’s brother, both Amy and Josh were in the wedding party. Of course Amy’s best friend had always thought they’d be a perfect match, so she made sure to pair them together for the walk down the aisle. Little did they know, it wouldn’t be their last trip down the aisle together! So based on that story, you’d think they were together from that point on until they got engaged, right? Well, kind of. They did start dating after that wedding, and dated for 3 years. Then they broke up (WHAT??????). FIVE YEARS went by(!!!!!!). And somehow, they both managed to figure out the one thing that had been missing from their lives for those five years was each other. Portrait: Robert, Elizabeth, & Abby – Montgomery, Alabama

I’ve photographed this family many times over the years, from their grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversary to lifestyle portraits of the kids on their farm. The last time I shot these three siblings, I think Robert was getting ready to head off to St. Louis for college. This time around, he was getting ready to graduate, and Elizabeth was the one heading off to school in Boston. Man, I feel old. 🙂

Engagement: Stephanie & Craig – Blount Cultural Park – Montgomery, Alabama

A lot of people choose Blount Cultural Park (aka Shakespeare) for pictures because of the expansive, lush, rolling green grounds. For this duo, it wasn’t just a pretty place – it was also the place where Craig first told Stephanie that he wanted to marry her. 🙂

So what do you do if it’s an unusually cold, windy day? You get out the quilt made by your grandmother, snuggle up in it, and try not to get pecked by the eternally hungry ducks at the park:
