Snapshots: Charleston, South Carolina

Last year I ventured to Charleston, South Carolina, where I was the second shooter for a super fly wedding. I’ve had to hold off on sharing pictures from that wedding, but I’ll show you some of them and tell you why I had to wait very soon (all this secrecy makes me feel like I’m describing a bad suspense movie – don’t go up the dark creepy stairs!!!)! Until then, feast your eyes on my view of Charleston from my iPhone:iphone instagram pictures of charleston south carolinaivy on a brick wall in charleston south carolinakiawah island ocean course and a sweet tea mojito from 82 and queenthe battery in charleston south carolinadowntown charleston south carolina travel photography

Wedding: Melanie & Will – The Town of Hampstead – Montgomery, Alabama

In the photography business, you tend to attract clients that like the same things you do. After all, your pictures are just an expression of how you see the world, so if people like your vision, chances are it’s because it matches THEIR vision. Throw in a few common interests like running and food, and you’ve got buddies waiting to happen. Such was the case with my little friend Melanie, who is one of those people that you like to be around because it’s just hard to be unhappy around her. She literally lights up a room – and I knew it would be no different on her wedding day at Hampstead.a letterpress wedding invitation at hampstead in montgomery alabama

The rustic, but elegant wedding combined old and new. The bride’s bouquet (by Southern Wedding Designs) incorporated modern touches like succulents, but the brooches decorating the stems belonged to Melanie’s grandmothers.bouquet with vintage brooches by southern wedding designs in montgomery alabama

The Badgley Mischka shoes were a new twist on a vintage fabric, and the Reem Acra gown had just enough glitz without being fussy.the bride's badgley mischka shoes for a hampstead wedding in montgomery ala bride getting into her reem acra gown for her hampstead wedding in alabama

Another thing we bonded over was losing our dads at a relatively young age – she had mentioned that the necklace she was going to wear for the wedding was a special sentiment between her and her dad, so it was fitting that her mom be the one to help her put it on. Dad wasn’t the only one who got a little tribute though – Melanie also wore her mom’s veil.a bride getting ready in the club room at hampstead before her weddingthe mother of the bride helps her daughter get ready for her hampstead weddinga bride in the club room at hampstead before her wedding in montgomery alabama

In the meantime, Will and his men were just down the street at The Tipping Point, enjoying a very manly pre-wedding snack of beer and Zapp’s chips. Little did he know, the sight of his lovely bride would nearly blow him away. 🙂a groom and groomsmen at the tipping point bar at hampstead in montgomery alabamaa bride and groom on a hill against a blue sky and white clouds in montgomery alabamaa bride and groom portrait at their hampstead wedding in montgomery alabamaa bride and groom laughing at their hampstead bocce pavillions weddinga ring shot with fuji instamatic polaroids at a hampstead weddinga bridal party at a hampstead wedding and reception in montgomery alabama

The signage from Erin Shae Weaver’s Etsy shop and mason jars of flowers along the aisle added rustic flair to the ceremony at the bocce pavillions, while The W Brothers string trio added classic elegance.rustic signs and mason jar flower containers at a hampstead wedding in montgomery althe w brother string trio at a hampstead wedding in montgomery alabama

In honor of her father, Melanie walked halfway down the aisle on her own, then her stepfather met her at that point to escort her the rest of the way. It couldn’t have been more perfect, since her stepdad built the arch that she and Will would be married under.a bride walking down the aisle at a hampstead bocce pavillions wedding in montgomerya hampstead bocce pavillions wedding ceremony in montgomery alabama

The cocktail hour featured drinks of course, along with freshly shucked oysters. And at the the center of it all? While the guests enjoyed a round or two of cornhole, Mary Sanders of Mary Me (the super duper wedding planner) turned the ceremony space into a lovely reception area, ready for a fabulous meal from Jennie Weller Catering:mary me wedding planner sets up hampstead bocce pavillions wedding reception in montgomeryflowers from southern wedding designs for a hampstead bocce pavillions weddinga hampstead wedding reception with jennie weller catering in montgomery alabama

The cake (from Vickie’s Cakes) had a very special cake topper – the same one was used on the cake at Melanie’s grandparents’, parent’s, and aunt’s weddings!a vickie's cakes wedding cake with a vintage cake topper at hampsteada hampstead bocce pavillions wedding reception in montgomery alabamaa hampstead wedding reception first dance in montgomery ala hampstead wedding reception with the cornbred band in montgomery alabamaa sparkler exit from a hampstead wedding in montgomery alabamabride and groom leave in a touch of class limo from their hampstead wedding

Melanie & Will – I hope your Punta Cana honeymoon was everything you hoped for, even though you (Melanie) didn’t get your long run done. 🙂 See you soon when we “get lucky” in Virginia Beach!

Engagement: Brandi & Phil – Auburn, Alabama

When Phil first spotted Brandi and her perfect posture at Auburn, he figured she was the daughter of a doctor or lawyer, and he didn’t stand a chance. Little did he know, Brandi had noticed how his t-shirts were fitted in all the right places, and thought he was HAWT. 🙂 Still, it took a long time for them to even speak to each other, but when they did, it finally led to their first date at Mellow Mushroom:an auburn university engagement session in alabama

Portrait: Viviana – Aston Kaanapali Shores Resort – Maui, Hawaii

The day after I shot Hope and Jeff’s vow renewal, we did a quick little portrait session at the resort. I held off on posting these since I knew they were thinking about using some of them for a Christmas card, so now that the holidays have passed, I can share a few of their super cute grandbaby, Viviana!a baby portrait session at the aston kaanapali shores hotel resort in maui hawaiimaui baby portraits at aston kaanapali shores resort in hawaii
