If you know me, then you know I’m generally not much of a risk taker. I like to plan, analyze, and look at things from all sides before I make a decision. But if you REALLY know me, then you also know that every now and then, I get a wild hair. 😉 I always wanted to visit Paris, and wondered what it would be like to live there (even though I speak almost zero French – unless you count “bonjour”, “merci”, and “chanterelle”). So…a few months ago, I rented an apartment in Paris for 2 weeks, booked a flight and went…solo!

Some people thought I was nuts, but the way I figure, life’s gonna happen whether you like it or not. You can sit around waiting for it to happen TO you, or MAKE it happen the way you want it – and I’m not planning on putting my life on hold waiting for someone to go places with me. Don’t get me wrong, it can be great to have company – my friend Leah and I had a great time in Ireland in 2010 (check out some pics in a past blog post). But think about it…if you go by yourself, you don’t have to agree on what to do on a given day, you can eat wherever you want, sleep in late when you want, walk around your apartment naked when you want…wait…pretend you didn’t read that last part!

So here goes Part One of my Paris adventure – mon petit chateau:The balcony was my favorite part – no better place to sit with a glass of wine, with your feet up after a whole lot of walking. If you look very carefully, you can see the top of Sacre Couer in the distance.The Moulin Rouge = tourist trap. Don’t waste your time……when you can keeping climbing your way through Montmarte and see something like this: the glorious Sacre Couer.The view when you turn your back to Sacre Couer is no less spectacular, looking down over the city of Paris:A little wandering down Rue Montorgueil:Side note: all the Paris pictures I’ll be posting are a mixture from my iPhone, Canon S90 (point and shoot), and Canon 5D Mark II (the monster you see me slinging around at weddings) – I’ll let you guess which pictures came from which camera. 🙂 Stay tuned for Part Two!
