Portrait: The Smith Family – Sardis, Alabama

I love seeing people from weddings past – all four members of the Smith family were in Amy & Brandon’s wedding (Amy is Steven’s sister), and thankfully, the day of their family session was not blazing hot like the day of the wedding! I met them at the tiny church in Pleasant Hill for a few pictures where the wedding took place:Oh my. Preschool girls, in about 15-20 years, prepare to be heartbroken:If this location looks familiar, it’s where Amy & Steven’s folks live – and where we did some of Amy & Brandon’s engagement pictures:Nothing says “little boy” like a pair of jeans with dirt on them:

Engagement: Megan & Jorge – Centennial Park – Atlanta, Georgia

The day of Megan & Jorge’s engagement session, we were blessed with a gorgeous sunny day, which was unexpected after the cold snap that happened just a day or two before. We headed to Centennial Park for a quintessential Atlanta look. Poor Jorge wasn’t feeling very well, but I think it’s safe to say he did a great job of hiding it!

Wedding: Kaci & Ryan – Private Residence – Alexander City, Alabama

I confess: when I’m going to a wedding venue and I have to drive on a dirt road to get there, I get a little giddy. When I have to drive on two dirt roads AND one gravel road, I’m doing a very cheesy happy dance. There’s something special about a wedding in the country, and Kaci and Ryan’s wedding was no exception. The festivities took place at the home of Ryan’s grandparents. Ryan’s grandmother is multi-talented – she was responsible for some of the catering, as well as all of the flowers:Loved these Nine West shoes (and the Alfred Angelo dress!):Yep, Ryan’s grandmother did all these flowers too (accented with pheasant feathers – perfect for the country setting):The lovely deck behind the house served as a dramatic dance floor:Plenty of candles and firelight set the mood – and what better way to enjoy a fire than with s’mores? Thanks Kaci & Ryan for letting me drive down a couple of dirt roads to hang with you – I hope your Hawks Cay honeymoon in the Florida Keys was amazing!

Awards: Las Vegas & Two WPPI 16×20 Print Competition Awards!

Last month I made my annual trek to Las Vegas for the WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) convention – from what I hear, over 14,000 photographers attended. So if you were in Vegas at the same time and you had trouble getting a signal on your iPhone: sorry, it’s our fault. Pretty much all of us have them and we practically shut down the network when all get together! So what do you do with an iPhone when you can’t get a decent signal? You take pictures of course. 😉 (All the images in this post were shot with the phone using the Instagram app – no Photoshop involved!)For the most part, the convention is about taking classes, seeing the latest and greatest products, and catching up with your photography friends from around the world, but another big part is the Awards of Excellence 16×20 Print Competition. This year there were 2171 entries in 18 categories…and I took home third place overall in the Portrait Division: Glamour/Boudoir category with my print, “Clean Cut” (yes, this is the same image I didn’t show you the last time it won an award – you’ll just have to trust me that it’s too hot to post!). Another one of my images, “Drenched”, received an Accolade of Excellence in the Portrait Division: Individual category. Thanks WPPI for the new chunk of crystal. 😉
