Awards: WPPI 8×10 Print Competition winner times 5!

Like always, the last few months of the year are completely nuts in the Chanterelle Photography world, between fall weddings, workshops, and holiday sessions. It’s the craziest time of year, without a doubt. In the middle of all the craziness, I got a nice surprise in my inbox – I found out I won 5 more awards in the WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photographers International) 8×10 Print Competition, including a 1st place overall in one category! Here’s a look at the winning images:

Portrait: Davis – Montgomery, Alabama

As the saying goes, some things never change. The last time I saw Davis, his mom explained to me that instead of sucking his thumb, he used two fingers. She also said he’d always had a way of looking “concerned”. When we did his one year session at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, he delivered on both accounts. 🙂ramseyblog3ramseyblog4ramseyblog2ramseyblog5ramseyblog1

Wedding: Meghan & Adam – Abingdon Episcopal Church & Kingston Plantation – Newport News, Virginia

Meghan and Adam’s wedding was a different one for me – because I hadn’t even spoken to either one of them until the big day. When the photographer that was originally scheduled to shoot their wedding was injured, my buddy (and Virginia wedding photographer) Tom Sanderson put the word out that a replacement was needed asap. Long story short, within a week I was on a plane to Newport News, and all was well. 🙂

Apparently they had luck on their side – even though it was overcast and a bit windy, the rain held off. Wind’s always good for a little veil fun.taylorblog01taylorblog02taylorblog03taylorblog04taylorblog05taylorblog06taylorblog07Their ceremony was held at Abingdon Episcopal Church – which I thought was a funny coincidence because Abingdon is the name of the neighborhood I live in.taylorblog08When they made their exit from the church, they snuck around back to give everyone time to come out of the church and line up for their getaway. They look giddy, don’t you think?taylorblog09taylorblog10Time for a couple quick pics before the reception at Kingston Plantation and Inn:taylorblog11taylorblog12taylorblog13taylorblog14The maid of honor told a very funny story during her toast that involved Meghan mistaking a life sized cutout of Legolas from The Lord of the Rings for an intruder. He even made an appearance. 🙂taylorblog15Some of the best wedding reception dancers I’ve ever seen hit the dance floor – I laughed when the DJ spun “Sweet Home Alabama”.taylorblog16taylorblog17Thanks to Meghan and Adam for being so gracious and welcoming me with open arms!

Portrait: Isabella – Montgomery, Alabama

You might remember Isabella from her newborn session, when she rocked a tiny baby faux hawk and a hot pink and black tutu. Well she was back to rock the tutus again! Even though it was cold outside, she was such a happy baby:blackblog3blackblog2Some people would consider this an outtake, but it makes me laugh so hard, I had to keep it. I told her mom she looks like a teeny little old lady clutching her sweater, thinking something like “oh my goodness!”blackblog4My favorite pic from the session. I love her scrunched up toes. blackblog1blackblog5

Senior Portrait: Barri Elizabeth – Nashville, Tennessee

A few weeks ago, I headed to Nashville for a photography workshop with my friends Steve & Shelley Harrington, who make up a kick butt team that is one of the top in the country when it comes to high school senior photography. I’ve been lucky to know them for a few years, but due to scheduling conflicts, I’d never been able to attend one of their workshops until now. We had the awesome Barri Elizabeth as our model – technically, she is not a senior, but she is so super cute, how could we complain? Turns out we had a common thread too, she’s friends with one of my 2010 brides, Jamie! Small world!

Photographer friends – if you want a chance to learn from Steve & Shelley, they’re doing a Masterclass at WPPI in March (told you they were awesome). There may not be room left, but if the class is sold out, be sure to get on the wait list!beblog2beblog1beblog3
