What? You shoot wakeboarding?

I got that a lot when people heard that I did a wakeboarding shoot, haha. So here’s the story: when I did my “Calvin Klein meets Fight Club” shoot, Chad and I got to talking about shooting him wakeboarding. Okay, a little background here: I’ve never shot sports in my life, let alone a extreme action sport, in a moving boat, shooting a guy with the reputation of being a bit of a wild child, who I know for a fact does things that border on crazy. So of course I said no, right? Are you kidding me? Getting the shot is an adrenaline rush for me – you bring it, I’ll shoot it (or try like heck anyway)! So we met up at the river one afternoon, and in an hour or so it was done – and I was totally stoked with what I got!

The Crowley Family

I wish I could bottle the energy from the Crowley boys. I’d be a lot less tired if I could have a shot of that every morning, haha! Like most kids their age, they run around a lot, so I run around with them – but when the time came to sit for a minute, they did a great job, so we went and fed the geese. I knelt down in goose poop sometime during the shoot, but I think the result was worth it!

Anna Beth

You might remember how excited I was when I went to shoot Kelly & Scott’s maternity session and saw the adorable nursery with the iron crib and chandelier. Well, that pretty little room now has an even prettier little girl in it – meet Miss Anna Beth! Sleeping newborns are high on my list of favorite subjects to shoot, and she did great job snoozing!

Calvin Klein meets Fight Club

Every photographer I know (including me) will tell you that they see pictures in their heads. I had the idea for this session in my head for about two years. I wanted to shoot a grittier version of the old school Calvin Klein ads – with simple backgrounds and dramatic lighting like those ads, with a grungy twist. Think Calvin Klein with a dose of Fight Club thrown in. The problem was, I knew exactly the kind of guy I wanted for the shoot and couldn’t find anyone that fit the pictures in my head, because the look I wanted was very specific. Then I had one of those “smack-my-forehead-should’ve-had-a-V8” moments when I realized that I DID know a guy that would be perfect for it. So I got in touch with my friend’s brother Chad, and he was all for it. It only took about a year for us to get it worked out, but I got EXACTLY what I saw in my head and there’s not much that’s better than that!

Caryn – Class of 2008

Just when you thought I was done with senior portraits for this year, here’s another one! The first things I noticed about Caryn were her sickeningly gorgeous eyes and adorable smile. She had no problems showing that smile off, even when I had her stand near a smelly garbage can! Congrats to Caryn, who I think had her graduation this weekend!
