On a foggy morning at Mulder Memorial United Methodist Church in Wetumpka, Lauren got ready to put on her David’s Bridal gown (customized with a modesty panel in front) and sparkly gold Mossimo ballet flats. She admitted she knew little about makeup and had had the salesperson at the store tell her what she needed to buy. Her mom helped her put on a strand of pearls (a gift from Lauren’s father), did her hair and placed a delicately beaded veil in it.
When she saw Travis (in his military regalia), any anxiety she had lessened. Since Travis is very light sensitive, we spent a little extra time finding nooks and crannies for pictures that offered his eyes some protection from the sun. She took it all in stride, laughing often and dare I say, showing a bit of sass!
Their ceremony was highlighted by the couple reading vows they had written themselves. The groom went first, and joked that if there was a zombie apocalypse, she’d be the one zombie he wouldn’t shoot. When it was Lauren’s turn, she included a few funny tidbits of her own, but left everyone speechless and weepy when she explained how Travis had taught her how to love herself.
For the reception, they decided to keep things simple and have light snacks and desserts just downstairs from the church sanctuary. The decor included jars of baby’s breath and stacks of their favorite books (including the Harry Potter series), and a pie table featuring pies from Shashy’s and Fresh Market.
A selection of cupcakes from Cupcakes by Tish served as the wedding cake (displayed on rustic wood cupcake stands made by Lauren’s dad), while The Walking Dead made and appearance on a zombie themed groom’s cake by Publix. They skipped the more traditional throwing of rice or rose petals for their exit and gave their guests ribbon wishing wands instead.
Lauren & Travis: thank you so much for letting me follow you home. 🙂 I hope Legoland was all you had imagined and more!
