I first met Megan’s mom Lisa many years ago, when she and her family moved from Jacksonville, Florida to Montgomery, Alabama as part of a job transfer. Not too long after that, I met her two daughters, Megan and Caitlin, who were students at Auburn. Who could have predicted that years later, we would all be at Villa Christina in Atlanta, watching Megan get ready to walk down the aisle?.jpg)
The last time I saw Jorge was during their engagement session, when he wasn’t feeling too well. The day of the wedding, I’d say he was feeling pretty good rocking his shades, more than ready to see his beautiful bride:.jpg)
The bride’s bouquet, created by Oh! Ccasions, mysteriously went missing early in the day. Luckily, someone was able to track it down before the ceremony!.jpg)

I love how Jorge looks so proud of himself: “Oh yeah, look what I got!”.jpg)
If you think the bride chooses everything, think again – apparently Jorge had a very clear idea of what he wanted the cake to look like, and Villa Christina delivered:.jpg)

They left through a curtain of bubbles for their honeymoon in Hawaii:
Megan and Jorge – thank you so much and I hope you ate an extra pineapple for me!
A few months ago, I got notice that one of my prints, “Clean Cut” received a seal in the Southeast PPA (Professional Photographers of America) District photographic competition. So what does that mean? It means that once that print goes into PPA’s International Photographic Competition, it’s guaranteed to receive at least merit status, if not better. So what the heck does THAT mean? Here’s how it works:
You send in your prints, and they are shown along with a couple thousand others, to a panel of judges. At this point, it’s like Project Runway – you’re either in or you’re out. If your print scores 80 or above, you’re in. 80 or below, you’re out. If you’re in, your print gets a merit and moves on to the next round.
In the next round, the judges choose the best of the best for the Loan Collection. These prints become part of a traveling exhibition and the photographer receives an additional merit. In order to “go loan”, your print must be voted in by a majority of the Loan panel. If it doesn’t, your print becomes part of the General Collection.
And then there is the Showcase Book, which is sort of a judges choice award. If your merited print doesn’t get the majority of votes required to go loan, and one (or more) of the judges thinks it should have, he/she has the option of putting your print in the Showcase Book. Each judge is only allowed to choose 6 prints, so the spaces are few and far between.
I actually forgot to check the results of the International Competition until about two months after it was over…but I got a nice surprise. “Clean Cut” didn’t just merit – it went Loan. This is the same print that won two awards earlier this year, the same print I haven’t shown you due to the content. And I’m still not showing you! 😉 But I can show you another one, because that wasn’t the only award I got! “The Classic Gentleman” was selected for the Showcase Book:.jpg)
The day after Jennie and Rushi’s wedding, I met up with the fabulous Fer Juaristi again to second shoot their “day after/trash the dress” session at the Fairmont Mayakoba. Since this was planned ahead of time, we didn’t spend much time the day of the actual wedding taking pictures of the bride and groom – so we made up for that by taking plenty of shots of the two of them before getting the dress wet! Jennie opted to wear her hair down for the day after session (why not change your look if you have two days to shoot?):.jpg)

She also borrowed shoes from one of the bridesmaids (which they found online for $20 – and they just happened to be an exact match for the bridesmaids’ dresses):.jpg)

Special thanks to Jennie and Rushi for making me feel welcome, and to Fer – I can’t thank you enough for the invite, my friend!
One of the perks of having super bad photographer friends is that you sometimes get invited to second shoot weddings with them. So what do you do when one of your favorite photographers says, “You’re welcome to shoot a wedding in Mexico with me anytime!”? You ask when and where and book a ticket so fast your credit card has smoke rising from the magnetic strip! That’s what happened when the fabulous Fer Juaristi invited me to second shoot Jennie & Rushi’s destination wedding in Riviera Maya, Mexico. When we arrived at the Fairmont Mayakoba, preparations were underway:.jpg)
While Fer stayed with the girls, I stuck with the guys:.jpg)

On our way to meet up with Fer and the girls on a bridge for Jennie & Rushi’s first look, the guys rocked their “stunner shades”, which they found on Amazon for less than $3 each!.jpg)

Jennie’s dress was surprisingly NOT intended to be a wedding gown – it was an off the rack formal dress she found at Bloomingdale’s:
Her citron-hued Diane Von Furstenberg shoes were a perfect match for the wedding’s red-orange/lime green color scheme:.jpg)

The cocktail hour and reception were accented with more personal touches, including straws sporting tiny pennants:
Since Rushi proposed to Jennie by spelling out “Will you marry me?” during a game of Scrabble, it was only appropriate that the game make an appearance in the decor:.jpg)

I love that they thought ahead and shipped a box of glow in the dark necklaces, lights and funky sunglasses to jazz up the dance floor:.jpg)
What better way to end the night than by jumping in the pool (with the entire bridal party AND some of the guests!)?
Stay tuned for pictures from their day after/trash the dress session!
